Game Show Animation

At work, I was tasked with creating the characters and backgrounds for a short game show-themed animation for a telemarketing company's website. I designed several different character styles, and the client ended up choosing a 1950's U.P.A.-style design (which was the one I hoped they'd choose anyway!)



For the set design, I went with something kind-of 60's/70's looking, like you might see on "Match Game" or something:

This is a piece of concept art for an animated logo/intro for Seakings Studios. It's supposed to feel like 1930's Disney, like you'd see in a "Silly Symphonies" cartoon:



Here's an illustration of a sea turtle I created for an animated iPhone game. They wanted a fairly realistic turtle design to use over a photorealistic background:

Chico Video Character Designs and Screenshots

These are some character designs and screenshots from an animated music video, "Chico." I created all artwork and animation for this video, inspired somewhat by the style and look of Mary Blair's concept art and illustrations.

Throughout the video, the main character, an El Camino car, sees "Chica" and her back-up singer friends. I designed them so that their visual "look" was consistent from "regular" outfit, to "Southern/Dixie," to mermaids:







The following are several screenshots from the video. The video is "set" in Austin, TX, so I also tried to capture many details of the city and surrounding landscape, while still keeping the colorful, whimsical look I was going for.




As the video heads into sunset and night, the look transitions to a flatter, less textured painting style:





We return to the more detailed look as we head into the Musician's Graveyard:

This is a character design page for a "Goldilocks"-themed commercial (NOTE: Goldilocks is missing legs because we never see her legs in the ad, so they were never designed; additionally, she is missing all but one of her "locks" because the one lock is duplicated into a full head of hair when brought into After Effects):
